About Tizzy

Tizzy (Tisbury) is a working line Berger Picard with a unique personality, sharp mind, and a heart full of potential. He’s e-collar trained, thrives with structure, and loves having a job to do. While Tizzy isn’t the kind of dog who fits into just any home, he is the kind of dog who will give his all to the right person — someone committed, structured, and willing to continue his training journey.

He’s currently living with me in Alexandria, VA, and I know him better than anyone. He’s healthy, loyal, playful, and has come a long way from the troubled dog he once was.

Tizzy’s Backstory

In November 2023, Tizzy came to me with a long list of behavioral issues:

  • Intense dog reactivity
  • Lunging at fast-moving cars
  • Biting people on the streets of DC
  • Barking and reacting to most triggers

He had been hit by a car. He had bitten multiple people. And his previous owners were expecting a baby — making his issues unsustainable. They had already worked with several local trainers, which only made things worse.

Tizzy was on his last chance. But after 5 weeks of living and training in my home, he transformed. He became calm, more confident, and manageable — no longer the ticking time bomb he once was. I stayed in close contact with his owners after he went home and even boarded him several times.

Unfortunately, once their baby arrived, Tizzy's structure began to slip. He was eventually relocated temporarily to Massachusetts, which helped for a time. But after returning to DC, old behaviors crept back. His owners made the difficult decision to give him up — and that’s when I stepped in.

For the last 8 months, Tizzy has lived with me again. He’s received daily training, structure, and fulfillment. And now, it’s finally time to find him the right forever home.

Tizzy's Needs

Tizzy is not for a first-time dog owner. He is best suited for someone with experience in structure-based or balanced training — someone who wants a working dog and is ready to give him the life he needs to thrive.

Non-Negotiables:

  • Daily structured play and training
  • A quiet, non-city environment with room to run and decompress
  • A crate for sleeping at night and anytime he’s left unattended
  • Clear structure and boundaries every day
  • Working for everything — food, affection, freedom, etc.
  • Proper leash tools: Tizzy wears a prong collar and e-collar daily
  • Supervised socialization only: He can be around other dogs, but must not be allowed to play freely without guidance

Tizzy does best with someone who understands the importance of correcting undesirable behaviors, like barking at the mailman or fixating on movement. Left unaddressed, these things snowball. But with the right leadership, Tizzy thrives.
